Monthly government for June considers several issues
(KPL) An ordinary session of the government for June opened from 29-30 June under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh has discussed and considered a number of important issues related to the social-economic development plan. The meeting heard a report and direction on land concession and leases for investors for industrial tree planting presented by the ministry of agriculture and forestry. The government advised to resume the concession in effectively and sustainable manner and in accordance with the ways to protect natural and environmental resources. The meeting advised the land management authority to completing surveys around the country to identify land according to its suitability for various uses. During the survey and classification of land is not completed, the meeting has agreed to suspend large-area land concessions , however, if an urgent case arise, with an investor needing more than 1,000 ha of land to carry out a business, the sector concerned will advise the cabinet in making a decision. For land of less than 1,000 ha, the sector concerned are advised to seek advice from the prime minister and deputy ministers. The meeting has also considered and advised draft decree on skills development. The decree is important as it will be a guide for government officials in training labourers so they can meet the needs of growing investment and development in Laos. They also approved in principle a decree on financing for businesses, which would enable business people to more easily access investment capital, using their vehicles and production equipment to guarantee loans from financial institutions. The meeting approved in principle a prime ministerial decree on the enforcement of the Law on Child Rights Protection. The meeting advised the ministry of public health to revise a prime ministerial decree requiring cigarette producers to attach health warnings to their products. The meeting also advised ministries and local administrations to enhance their efforts to carry on the task of national defence and protection to ensure security in the country and to counter anti-social behaviour. The meeting urged the sector concerned to prepare to implement the 2009-2010 socio-economic development plan, which the National Assembly will approve this month. The meeting also urged the authorities concerned to be on the alert for an outbreak of the A/H1N1 virus, bird flu and other diseases, to control prices in markets, and continue support for the development of education and poverty reduction around the country.
