Dengue fever kills 15 people in Saravane

(KPL) As of 31 august, 15 people have been dying of dengue fever which has also infected 1,657 people in southern province Saravane.

“Dengue fever outbreak is reported in 282 villages of eight districts across the province,” said on Tuesday, September 31, Head of Epidemiology Division, Health Service of Saravane province, Dr. Oudomsack Sisana.

“The outbreak begun at the beginning of 2010 and now Lakhonepheng district is the most hard-hit by dengue fever. The district has 547 patients of dengue fever and three dying of the disease followed by Saravane with 374 dengue fever patients and nine dying of the mosquito-borne disease.

Laongam district has 253 patients of dengue fever with one dying of the disease.

The number of dengue fever patients in the province is increased by 451 cases, almost four folds of the record for 2009.

Relevant authorities in the province have established committee in charge of dengue fever prevention, laid out plan on training for health workers at dispensaries in villages and conducted health education campaign, which has so far benefited 100 villages .
