Lao-Viet Nongchanh Shopping Mall begins construction
(KPL) Lao-Viet Nongchanh Shopping Mall will be a new modern market for Vientiane residents. Invested by the Lao-Viet Joint-Venture Investment and Trade Development Co., the mall will be constructed to replace Khuadin market on 11,500-sq m. The investor had a stone-laying ceremony for the construction of the mall last Thursday. Attending the event were Vientiane Mayor Dr Sinlivong Khoutphaythoune and Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Huy Quang. With an investment of US$ 11 million, the new facility will consist of two five-storey buildings and one three-storey buildings. One five-storey building and another three-storey building are scheduled for complete in 2010 to mark the 450th founding anniversary of Vientiane Capital. Director of the No 5 Construction, Installation and Construction Materials Co., Mr Tran Duy Tuan said, “The new facility is located in the city centre and is easily accessible to large numbers of people. There is a growing demand for consumer goods and more products are coming into the country from various origins, so it is necessary to have such development.” The mall will be fully equipped with lifts, escalators, air-conditioners, drainage system, fire hydrants and relaxing park. It will have 1,000-1,200 booths and food outlets. There will also be a convention centre and offices for rent, with a basement car-park.
