Nearly 700 species of birds identified

(KPL) The Wildlife Survey Team (WST) of the Forestry department has identified 675 of birds in some 20 forest reserves in the country.
The habitat of birds is pristine forest. With the decline of this forest, some large birds are reported to be rare or on the verge of extinction. Some have migrated to neighbouring countries where living conditions are more favourable.
WST officials said the reasons for the loss of bird species included wanton hunting and encroachment of forest, which damaged the birds’ habitat.
WST appealed to the general public to be actively involved in protecting wildlife and forests in the country to ensure the state of balance between social development and conservation.
