Political System of the Lao PDR

The LPRP has organised eight congresses to date. Each Congress had a political report, which planned a strategy for the stipulated period, elected a leader and adopted the party rule. President Kaysone Phomvihane was elected as Secretary General and President of the Party Central Executive Committee in the first to fifth congresses and from then Mr. Khamtay Siphandone and Mr. Choummaly Sayasone has been elected as President of the Party Central Executive Committee.

The organisational structure of the Party is divided into four levels: central, provincial, district and grassroots. These were the leading core for the battles in the past and are spearheading the national defence and development at the present time.
