Environment Fund urges efficient use of natural resources

(KPL) The Lao government prioritised environmental conservation and land usage because of the fragile ecosystem, natural resource and land use and their relationship to bio-diversity, said Mr Asang Laoly, Chairman of the Environment Fund during a meeting on environmental conservation.

He said that regarding the natural resource and land usage, there was a need to develop a definite policy and rule of law so as to ensure that the value of land persists and that its usage would not have any adverse effect on the environment and society. Mr Asang said the government had developed a policy on investment in the usage of land for domestic and overseas investors, such as tree plantations, golf courses, resorts, hydropower stations, development of tourism sites and infrastructure.

In order to conserve the environment, entrepreneurs should be transparent on how they would use the land and give assurance on total protection of the environment. This two-day workshop was held in Vientiane, 25 to 26 February.
