SDPM awarded honorary doctorate from Thai university
(KPL) The mayor of Raspakloei, Dr Sousad Miengkeo, Thailand awarded the honorary doctor of philosophy degree to the Standing Deputy Prime Minister, Somsavat Lengsavad in the Prime Minister’s Office on 29 June. Professor Somkoth Mangnomek, Minister of Education, secretary of the government, the heads of government departments and invited guests were also at this event. During this ceremony, Dr Sousad Miengkeo, mayor of Raspakloei University congratulated the Standing Deputy Prime Minister for his efforts in bringing benefits to the society at the regional, country and local levels. The mayor said that the Standing Deputy Prime Minister played an important part in strengthening relationships within the Sub-Mekong region, made up of countries like Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Mayanmar and China. Dr Sousad maintained that when he was the Minister of Foreign Affairs in 2006 he developed a policy on national education, he worked to get money to support the students of Laos, worked to plan the formation of the first stock market in Laos and to source for funds for development in Laos from overseas and within the country. Dr Sousad said that when Mr Somsavat was developing the relationship of countries in the region he had in effect led to Thailand to gain from his work. One example of the good work of Mr Somsavat is the work he put in to establish the fourth Mekong River bridge, to connect the Thai province, Naknonpanoum with Khammouan province on the Lao side and such a connection makes Laos a transit country and at the same time it links the Sub-Mekong region countries. He also worked on, Dr Sousad said on national development, administration on technology and cooperation between Laos and Thailand.
