Handicraft makers enjoy export contracts
(KPL) Orders from France and Germany are satisfactorily increased which led the two countries as the largest importers of Lao handicraft products, according to the Lao Handicraft Association (LHA).
The President of the Lao Handicraft Association, Ms Rasnikone Navong, told the media at a meeting, Vientiane Capital on 26 February.Attending the meeting were the Deputy President of the National Chamber of Industry and Commerce Sananh Chounlamany and officials concerned.
Last year, the value of handicraft exports to France was US$93,475, which increased considerably compared to 2008 valued at US$20,105 in and US$12,814 in 2007.
While the volume export to Germany reached US$10,056. “We are very satisfied with the increment of handicraft export value over the past years although we have faced many challenges and global financial crisis,” said Ms Rasnikone.
The 2009 export enjoyed income nearly US$100,000 which increased one fold compared to the 2008, she said. “I think this year the export volume of handicrafts would move upward due to the high quality of products with a reasonable price that customers can afford and match the European markets demand, especially France and Germany,” added Ms Rasnikone. The Lao Handicraft Association earned US$209,555 from exports to Europe and Asian markets over the past three years. The export value of our handicraft products would remain at high level thanks to the technical assistance from the National Commerce and Industry Chamber, the Department of Export and Production Promotion, and the Ministry of Industry and Commerce and the trust from international organisations, she concluded.
