Indian Embassy awards prizes to kid painting winners

(KPL) Indian Ambassador Suresh Kumar Goel last Saturday awarded prizes to the winners of the painting competition held at the Embassy of India in Vientiane in mid-January.

The competition was under the themes contemporary and relevant to outstanding issues mattering Laos and the world including ‘Effects of Global Warming’, ‘How to Celebrate the 450th Proclaiming Anniversary of Vientiane Capital’, ‘My Favourite Sport’, ‘Development of Vientiane’ and ‘Images of SEA Games in Vientiane’.

The awarding ceremony was attended by Dr. Bountiem Phissamay, President of the Laos-India Friendship Association, members of the Laos-India Friendship Association, distinguished guests and parents of the painting winners.

The Embassy of India in Laos started organising the painting competition in 2007 on an annual basis to promote the creativity of Lao children.

The winning paintings from the Lao PDR will gain an official entry to the Shankar’s International Painting Competition in India, which will have paintings from young painters around the world.

Painting is important for creating awareness for children on issues affecting their society, said Mr. Goel.

“Children will play an important role in enhancing friendship between Laos and the international community and ensuring a prominent place for the Lao PDR at international arena,” said the Indian Ambassador.

“I hope that the Embassy of India and the Laos-India Friendship Association will continue to collaborate on these valuable endeavours for stronger relations and friendship between India and Laos,” said Mr. Goel.
