Attapeu governor urges eco-friendly production
(KPL) Dr Khamphanh Phommathath, governor of Attapeu province, presided over the opening ceremony of the Sustainable Agriculture and Forestry Production project in Attapeu on February 24.
The governor urged the agriculture and forestry officials to give priority to this eco-friendly project and to see that local people are deeply involved in its operation.
“This project focuses on improving the living conditions of rural people,” said Dr. Khamphanh.
“Farmers would increase their production because they knew their products could be transported by good roads to the big markets where their agricultural products could fetch high prices and all these would give the rural people better living conditions,” said Dr. Khamphanh.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and the Lao government raised USD$35 million for this project, which commenced in 2009 and scheduled for completion in 2015.
