Construction of Postgraduate distance school starts

(KPL) The French Priority Solidarity Fund (PSF) has granted 3.7 billion kip (US$445,000) to the Lao government to finance the construction of a postgraduate building of the University of Health Science.

The development project includes the renovation of a French-styled building of the university.

A foundation stone-laying ceremony was held at the University of Health Science on Tuesday to start the construction of the postgraduate building and the renovation of the old building.

Minister of Health, Dr. Ponemek Dalaloy, French Ambassador to Laos Francois Senemaud, PSF representative, Dr. Frederick Gay, President of University, Mr. Som-ock Kingsada, and representatives from Mahosot Hospital, Mittaphab Hospital, Setthathirath Hospital and Mother-and-Child Hospital were present at the ceremony.

Officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Planning and Investment, Public Works and Transport, and Finance also attended the event.

The construction and the renovation are carried out by the Bouachanh Construction and House Repair Company. The project is expected to be over within eight months as from February. “The project contributes to the capacity building of human resources in the medical sector in Laos,” said Dr. Ponemek. “Teachers and students hope that these buildings will facilitate their work and education after their construction and renovation are over,” said Dr. Ponemek.
