Chao Anouvong Park to be complete by Vientiane’s 450th celebrations
(KPL) T he construction of Chao Anouvong Park is scheduled to be over before the celebration of the 450th proclaiming anniversary of Vientiane as the national capital of Laos, said Mr. Bounchanh Keosithamma, Manager of the Mekong River Park Development Project.
The work to be completed in October before the celebration of Vientiane’s 450th proclaiming anniversary includes the construction of a road stretch from Pakpasak to That Khao.
The project also includes the construction of a public park at the back of the five-star hotel Don Chan Palace, according to Mr. Bounchanh.
He said on Wednesday that the Mekong River Park Development Project has been divided into two phases and the first one includes three main works—the construction of flood dike, the Chao Anouvong Park and a road stretch from Pakpasak to That Khao.
Meanwhile the second one includes the construction of a road stretch from Pakpasak to Kao Liao, which is planned to be over in 2013.
The government has allocated land in Sikhothotabong district for the resettlement of 146 families who have lived along the Mekong River bank to make way for the development.
The Mekong River Park Development Project is a priority programme of the government, which is financed with a soft loan of USD$37.2 million from the Republic of Korea.
