Laos, Vietnam stimulate economic development through co-operation
(KPL) Khammouane province’s Laos and Ha Tinh province’s Vietnam have inked an agreement to further cooperate in socio-economic development. According to signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding on Socio-Economic Development took place in Khammouane province at the end of April, signed between Mr Khambai Damlath, Khmmouane Governor and Mr Nguyen Thanh Binh, President of People’s Court Assembly of Ha Tinh province in the presence of high ranking official of both sides. The agreement is to push forward effectively the implementation of previous cooperation agreement was signed at a meeting between two high-ranking officials that two sides were satisfied with the national defence and security along common border. So far, two sides have closely paid attention to the implementation of MoU, signed at the 17th meeting of National Border Committees between Laos and Vietnam in November 2007, Hue province of Vietnam, and an agreement was signed September 2007 involved to education work of both provinces. Under the MoU, they have agreed to further train and improve Lao and Vietnamese languages and other vocational skills at the Ha Tinh university, the human resource development in medical, economic, science and technology cooperation sectors of Khammouane province would also be received assistance from Ha Tinh province. The two provinces will facilitate each local enterprise to invest and run businesses in its efforts to boost mutual trade and goods transactions, industrial tree plantation, non-timber forest products processing, excavation and processing gypsum in Khammouane province for export. Ha Thinh also agreed to build a primary school in Nabo village in Thakhek district worth 1 billion dong, which was supported by Trade and Mining Company of Ha Tinh. This company will also provide financial assistance for the construction of a kindergarten, in Sebangfai district, worth 300 million kip. Ha Tinh will help to drill water ground in Banghuana development cluster village, Sebangfai district, worth 50 million kip.
