President receives credentials from New foreign ambassadors
(KPL) President Choummaly Sayasone of the Lao PDR yesterday received here at the Presidential Palace the letter of credentials from the new ambassadors extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka, H.E Prof J.B Disanayaka, and of the Republic of Benin, Mr. Sedozan Jean Chaude.
During the reception at “ Hor Kham”, the Presidential Palace, President Choummaly welcomed the new ambassadors and talked highly of the expansion of the relations and co-operation between Laos and Sri Lanka and Laos and the Republic of Benin.
President Choummaly also briefed the two ambassadors of the development in Laos and the role of foreign investment in the country. He also wished the two ambassadors success in of their diplomatic mission and hoped that the bilateral relations would be continually enhanced during their term of office.
Ambassadors J.B Disanayaka and Sedozan Jean Chaude, who have their chancellery in Bangkok and Beijing, respectively, affirmed that they would do their utmost to enhance the ties and co-operation between their respective countries and the Lao PDR.
Laos established the diplomatic relations with the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka on 20 July, 1965 and with the Republic of Benin on 2 January, 1977. Since the year 2000, Laos and Sri Lanka have observed the MoU on education, sports, trade and culture co-operation.
The Sri Lankan government has offered a number of short-term scholarships to Lao officials for training courses in Sri Lanka. These included the training in computer, agriculture, public health, English language and services. The Sri Lankan government is now offering training courses in different fields to Lao government officials.
