GDP to grow by 8 % in next five years

(KPL) The 7th five-year plan for national socio-economic development from 2011 to 2015 (7th NSEDP) expects the annual gross domestic product (GDP) to grow by 8 per cent in the next five years. The expectation was disclosed by the Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment, Dr. Bounthavy Sisouphanthong, to National Assembly members, in a seminar held in Savannakhet province from 31 August to 3 September.
A four-day seminar was part of the preparation for the upcoming 8th ordinary session of the National Assembly (NA) to be held at the end of the year.
Dr. Bounthavy said that the 2011-2015 period was expected to see the annual GDP growth by 8 per cent.
The GDP combines the output of different sectors, including the output of the agriculture-forestry sector (23 per cent), industry sector (39 per cent), and of service sector (38 per cent), respectively. Under the next five years’ plan, focus would be on reducing the number of poor people to less 24 per cent of the total population. The mortality rate of children under five would be at least 1,000/80 children and children’s weight who are lower than standard would be reduced to less 22 per cent.
During the period, efforts will be made to promote the gender equality rights in education, he said.
The mortality rate of mothers would be 100,000/260 people.
