Lao Red Cross expects blood from 2,500 donors

(KPL) This year, the Lao Red Cross Society plans to encourage 2,500 people to voluntarily donate blood, according to a meeting held by the organisation in Vientiane capital on Monday 18 January.
“Mobilisation for blood donation will be launched through advertisement on TV, radio, newspapers, posters and conducting outreach campaigns accessing villages and districts,” said Dr. Te Thammavong, Director of the Blood Donation Centre, Lao Red Cross Society.
Dr. Te said that the blood donated to the centre would be given to underprivileged people which is in line with the policies of the government and the party on poverty reduction of the Lao people.
Last year, the Lao Red Cross Society saw significant donation of blood of Vientiane residents, mostly students. Over 2,700 donors donated their blood last year to the Lao Red Cross although earlier the organisation expected 1,850 donors only for 2009.
