MIC discusses drafting new policy on national culture

(KPL) Minister of Information and Culture yesterday convened a meeting of technical officials to make a decision on drafting a new policy on national culture through combining the existing policy on national culture and a guideline on the Lao cultural conservation and promotion.

"The aim of the meeting is to combine the two documents into one as the Policy on National Culture," said Minister of Information and Culture Mounkeo Oraboune at the meeting on drafting a new policy on national culture, held in Vientiane on August 19-20.

The draft policy is reportedly aimed at promoting the involving representatives of the government, the private sector, and the general public in developing, conserving and promoting the Lao national culture. The draft policy would then be submitted to the government for consideration and approval, according to Minister Oraboune. The meeting is in materialisation of the decision of the Government’s monthly meeting for May and the announcement of the Cabinet Secretariat, which was issued on May 31, 2010, regarding a draft policy on national culture and the guideline on the Lao cultural conservation and promotion.
