Vietnamese President to visit Laos

(KPL) Mr. Nguyen Minh Triet, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, will pay an official visit to Laos on August 24-26.

The visit is in response to the invitation of H.E. Mr. Choummaly Sayasone, President of the Lao PDR.

The visit aims to further strengthen the special friendship and all-round co-operation between Laos and Vietnam.

His biography is as follows:

Date of birth: 8 October 1942

Place of birth: Bonh Duong province

Education: B.A (mathematics)

Career

1960-1975 Participated in the resistance war for national salvation

1975-1987 Working for the Office of the Ho Chi Minh Central Youth Union, holding the positions of Deputy Head of Chancery, Head of Commission and Secretary of the Central Youth Union.

1988-1996 Working in Song Be province, holding the positions of member of the Provincial Party Committee, Deputy Secretary and then Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, member of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee.

1997 Deputy Secretary of Ho Chi Minh Party Committee.

1998-1999 Member of the CPV Politburo, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee.

Since 6/2006 Elected by the National Assembly as President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Marital Status: Married with two children, one son and one daughter.
