PM attends new school handover in Paksong
(KPL) A hand-over ceremony of a new secondary school of Paksong district, Champassak province, was held on 17 August in the presence of Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh, and Champassak Governor Sonesay Siphandone, among others.
Prime Minister Mr Bouasone Bouphavanh who was on a working visit to the central and southern provinces of Savannakhet, Champassak, Sekong and Saravane, has cut the ribbon to open the new school building.
Between 2009 and 2010, Paksong district secondary school had only 20 rooms to house its 1,200 students, in some cases forcing 80 students to share one classroom.
Despite the number of students increasing to 1,300 in the 2010-11 academic year, the children won’t be forced to have their lessons in such an overcrowded setting any longer.
The new building comprises of sixteen classrooms, one office and ten toilets and a newly installed computer system.
The whole project is valued at about 2.4 billion kip, with financial support being provided by Daoheuang Song Road and Bridge Construction Company.
In addition, the Lao Foundation for Assisting the Poor and other Lao civil groups have contributed to providing new teaching and sports facilities to promote education and physical activities of the school students.
