Malaria is on the increase in remote areas in Laos
(KPL) Vientiane province held a meeting on how best to malaria control in Laos, especially in the remote areas, for a two-year period, 2009-2010 and it was attended by Dr. Bounkhuang phichit, Minister of Public Health and National Organisations and other relevant bodies from 18-21 January. This deadly disease was disseminated by the anopheles mosquito. The malaria bearing mosquitoes bite at people and infected them with this disease, causing them to undergo suffering and death in some cases.
In 1996 the government took part in a multi-nation malaria prevention project, with monetary support from a slew of fund giving bodies, World Bank, Lao-Vietnam Cooperation Project, Japanese Government Fund, Lao-EU Prevention Project and Asian Development Bank.
Presently, malaria prevention was in the radar screen of international bodies, enabling the pooling of money so as to carry out more effective prevention work and hopefully, one day in the future, to eradicate this scourge from the face of the earth.
