Vientiane receives financial support from Korea
(KPL) High-ranking delegates of the Republic of Korea have recently visited the grant projects of rural development, poverty reduction and human resource development in Vientiane province. The delegation was led by the Head to President’s Office of the Republic of Korea, Mr. Euh Yoon Dae and Country Representative of Korean International Cooperation Agency to Laos, Mr. Sung Choon Ki. Three projects were financed by the Republic of Korea, amounting to more than US$10 million. The projects started in 2006 and completed last year. According to Head of Planning and Investment Service of Vientiane province, Mrs. Singkham Khongsavanh, the rural development project was implemented in five villages of Viengkham and Keo-oudom districts worth US$2.32 million. The Nam Chim irrigation system construction project, located in Senesume village, Phonhong district with a total of US$1.7 million and the Ethnic Vocational School construction project in Vangvieng district cost US$2.8 million. These three projects have been completed and handed over to Vientiane province administration to manage, said Mrs. Singkham. Vientiane province is focusing on constructing a reservoir and irrigation system cost US$3.2 million in Maed district which is expected to be completed this year, she added. The Vientiane Planning and Investment Service is surveying the constructions of Nampeun reservoir and irrigation system project in Hin Heup district on the worth US$3.2 million and asphalted road stretches 14-km long access to Lingsane village, Thoulakhom district. Two projects will be kicked off soon, she added. Fund raising campaign for five primary schools construction in Viengkham district is under consideration which is expected to be conducted this year.
