Luang Prabang's New Party Cell Secretary elected

(KPL) The 6th meeting of the Party Committee of Luang Prabang province has unanimously approved of the election of Mr Khampheng Saysompheng as a new Party Committee Secretary of Luang Prabang province.

The meeting closed on 20 August after a three-day discussion under the chairmanship of Vice-President Bounnhang Vorachit. During the session, a political report and a plan for socio-economic development for the next five years 2011-2015 have been approved.

They have listened to Luang Prabang Party members’ comments to the political report on all fronts and a report of the 5th provincial Party Executive Board.

The meeting also elected a new 31-strong Party Executive Committee of Luang Prabang province, and provincial delegates to the upcoming 9th Party Congress due early next year.

The new Party Executive Committee has held its first meeting and has unanimously selected a nine-strong standing committee.

According to the result of the election, Mr Khampheng Saysompheng has been elected as the new provincial Party Secretary of Luang Prabang province, Mr Khamdoua Yiakaunor Hervang, as first Provincial Party Deputy Secretary, Mr Khamkhanh Chanthavisouk as second Provincial Party Deputy Secretary, Mr Bouathong Phengsavanh as Chairman of the Provincial Party Inspection, Mr Bounma Siheuangsay as first Deputy Chairman of Provincial Party Inspection and Mr Thongnhing Yang Laomang as second Deputy Chairman of Provincial Party Inspection.

Vice-President Bounnhang has evaluated and praised the effective implementation of the province’s last five-year plan in line with the resolution of the 8th Party Congress.

Through the implementation of the provincial socio-economic development plan over the past five years, the province’s annual GDP grows at 9.4 per cent, totalling 3,001.43 billion kip, and the per capita income of 6.98 million kip (US$821).

The achievement has exceeded the target approved by the 5th meeting of the Party Cell. With the approved target, the agriculture and forestry output was set at 7.5 per cent, industry and handicraft at 13 per cent and the service sector at 10 per cent.

Under the next five-year plan for socio-economic development of Luang Prabang province, the GDP growth is projected at no less than 14 per cent, with the expected output of 6.7 per cent from the agriculture and forestry sector, 18.4 per cent from industry and 20 per cent from the service sector.
