Lao President hails Vietnamese counterpart’s visit

(KPL) President Choummaly Sayasone told his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Minh Triet that his state visit to Laos was considered a great encouragement to the Party and Government and the Lao people in fulfilling the resolution of the 8th Party Congress and preparing for the coming 6th Congress of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party.

"I strongly believe that your state visit could significantly contribute to enhancing the friendship and special relations and all-round cooperation between the two Parties, states and peoples of Laos and Vietnam," President Choummaly told his Vietnamese counterpart at their bilateral meeting held yesterday in Vientiane.

"The constant exchange visit by the state and government leaders of our countries is necessary and required for the exchange of views and the settlement of outstanding issues in the interest of enhancing the long standing relations of the two Parties, States and peoples of our countries," said President Choummaly.

President Nguyen Minh Triet of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, spouse and his delegation yesterday arrived here on a state visit to the Lao PDR to enhance the special relations and all-round cooperation between the two neighbours.

The Vietnamese President was received in a ceremonial welcome held at his Presidential Office where both sides had a meeting to discuss issues regarding the enhancement of the special relation and all-round cooperation between the two countries.

Both sides informed each other of the socio-economic development in their respective countries and agreed that it was necessary for the two countries to enhance the bilateral cooperation in line with the agreement reached between the Politburos of the Party Central Committees of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and the Communist Party of Vietnam.

Both sides also shared common views on some international issues and the key elements of unrests in the region and the world over and the impacts of the world economic turmoil on the two countries.

On the first day of his three-day visit to Laos, the Vietnamese President also received courtesy visits of President of the National Assembly of Laos, Mr. Thongsing Thammavong; President of the Lao Front for National Construction, Mr. Sisavath Keobounphanh; Lao Prime Minister, Mr. Bouasone Bouphavanh; and President of the Laos-Vietnam Friendship Association, Mr. Khamphanh Viphavanh; and witnessed the opening ceremony of a temporary representative office of Voice of Vietnam (VOV) radio in Vientiane.
