Laos marks 35th anniversary of Uprising Day
(KPL) The Lao PDR marked the 35th anniversary of the Uprising Day or the day of administrative power seizure at the Lao ITECC, on 23 August.
The Uprising Day on 23 August is a very important historical event of our nation as well as Vientiane Capital that is the day when hundred thousands of Vientiane residents gathered to seize power from the old administration and proclaimed the new administration, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad recalled.
"The administration power seizure in Vientiane Capital on 23 August, 1975, is the strike on the last “fortress" of foreign aggressive imperialist power and the reactionary traitors as their henchmen and features the gathering to declare the great victory of the national salvation prolonging over 30 years of Lao people under the leadership of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party,"he went on. "This is a remarkable event of the nation to establish a new administration and the Lao PDR on 2 December 1975”.
Mr Somsavat has also highlighted the background of the Lao PDR since the rule of King Setthathirath in BE 1560 who had moved the capital of the Kingdom of Lane Xang from Xiengdong-Xiengthong (now Luang Prabang) to Vientiane. During his reign, King Setthathirath led Lao people in renovating the country and Vientiane, in particular.
The upcoming 450th anniversary of Vientiane as the national capital is a historical and cultural celebration but with a profound political and social substance. We thus need to integrate them in the celebration in a harmonious manner, said the Vice-Premier.
