Phongsaly residents complain about expensive living conditions
(KPL) People in Phongsaly province are suffering from expensive commodities due to a high import tax rate so they called the government through National Assembly to cope with this problem. The statement came as Mr. Ousavanh Thiengthepvongsa, a NA member of Phongsaly province was speaking at the 7th Ordinary Session of National Assembly of the Sixth Legislature in Vientiane on Wednesday. Mr. Ousavanh proposed the relevant sectors to oversee price of consumer goods nationwide, especially in Phongsaly province, for instance the diesel price in Phongsaly province is sold at 9,000-10,000 kip per litre while in Vientiane is only 6,170 per litre. The prices of hotels, guesthouses and foods are also expensive, if it compared to other area. This would affect to tourism sector and decrease number of visitors each year. With this problem, Mr. Ousavanh urged the government to reduce the import tax rate for consumer goods. He continued that hundreds thousands of poor students, in rural areas nationwide, have not access to the basic education because their parents have low income and they can not support their children to study. In this case, the government should set up a special education fund for assisting poor children. Along with the increment of salaries of civil servants and teachers in rural areas should be also reconsidered, he presented.
