Communicable disease control measure needs further strengthening

(KPL) The National Co-ordinating Committee for Prevention and Control of Communicable Disease held a meeting under the presidency of Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh, at the Prime Minister’s Office on 24 August. The aim was to further formulate the next five-year plan for handling disease epidemics.

The National Co-ordinating Committee for Prevention and Control of Communicable Disease (NCCDC) has also reviewed the implementation of five strategies of the national programmes on preventing and controlling the poultry flu in animals and humans and in control and prevention of poultry flu epidemic the past four years.

The meeting evaluated positive points and shared views in the implementation of the five strategies, bird flu response and the prevention of poultry flu, swine flu—type of AH1N1 epidemic last year, to improve current strategy in accordance with the climate change stemming from storms and infected diseases.

These range from SARS, poultry flu, swine flu, dengue fever and cholera which pose a threat to people’s health in the region.

The NCCDC in cooperation with specialists in all parts concerned have prepared for 2011-2015 plan on the control of infected diseases to be further materialised the effective control of disease epidemic nationwide.

They have also created an effective plan on all type of disease epidemics that might occur in the future.

Mr Cheuang Sombounkhanh, Minister to Prime Minister’s Office and Head of NCCDC, has highlighted the achievement of the past communicable disease control based on the five strategies of national programmes on preventing and controlling poultry flu in animals and humans over the past four years, despite shortcomings and constraints that should be dealt with and improved.
