Saravane prepares 208 teachers for “year-7” classes
(KPL) Saravane has prepared 208 teachers for teaching “madthayom 7” (year-7) classes in secondary schools across the southern province, said Mr. Bounthiem Chanthachone, Deputy Head of the Secondary School Division, Provincial Education Service of Saravane.
“Saravane has organised a training course for teachers who will teach “year-7” classes of secondary school,” said Head of the Education Administration Division, Saravane’s Provincial Education Service, Mr. Bounkong Phetchaleunlath.
Saravane has 15 secondary schools able to open the “year-7” classes. These include five schools in Saravane district, six in Vapy, Khong Sedon and Lakhonepheng districts, two each, and four in Lao-ngam, Ta-oi, Samouai and Toumlane districts, one each.
Around 1,500 students are expected to study in “year-7” classes with 11 subjects this year. The province needs 39 more classrooms to accommodate such a number of students but at present there are only 17 classrooms available for the year-7 students.
“Twenty two classrooms are needed to be built to facilitate the study of students at this level and it is necessary for us to have contribution from parents and the government to support the construction of classrooms for the year-7 students,” said Mr. Bounthiem.
On the first of September, which is the first day of the 2010-2011 academic year, Saravane expects it could open year-7 classes at least one school in each district, according to Mr. Bounkong.
The year-7 class will be introduced to the secondary education system for the first time from this year. Earlier, students spend only six years in secondary schools.
