Natural resources sustainable exploitation studied into
(KPL) Fifty government officials and representatives of the World Bank, the ADB, UNDP, JICA and the University of Turku Finland last Friday met in a seminar on approving the result of a research in to the sustainable exploitation of natural resources.
The research, Future Resource Economy and Policy of Laos till 2020, was conducted by Department of Electricity, Ministry of Energy and Mines, in cooperation with the National University of Laos and the University of Turku Finland.
The research is focused on study into the planning method and use the exploitation of natural resources, mainly water resources for producing electricity for sustainable development.
The research project was begun in 2009 and will complete in 2011 with a financial support of EUS 380,000 from the Finland Government. Similar seminars have already been held three times.
"Last year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland supported an institutional partnership project between the Faculty of Engineering of the National University of Laos and Finland Research Center and the main focus in this project was capacity development in the field of energy and environment," said Dr. Kaivo Oja of the Finland Future Research Centre.
The second institutional partnership project Lao-Finnish Mineral Sector Institutional Project is also a capacity strengthening project implemented together by the Geological Survey of Finland and the Ministry of Energy and Mines.
Its objective is to support the mineral sector development as fundamental driver of the country’s economy.
