Tourism Information Centre ready to serve tourists
(KPL) The Tourism Information Centre for five central provinces was opened on 2 February at the tourism service of Savannakhet province to facilitate tourism information in five central provinces of Vientiane Capital, Savannakhet, Khammouane, Borikhamsay, and Vientiane provinces to tourists. Dr. Khampheui Phanthachone, Deputy Governor of Savannakhet, Dr. Sila Moonthalavong Vice President of the National Tourism Administration, and representatives of the five central provinces attended the event. Ms Bounmy Khantivong, Head of the Savannakhet tourism service, said that the Tourism Information Centre for five central provinces receiving 403 million kip totally, which 350 million kip was supported by the Lao National Tourism Administration and 53 million kip from the Savannakhet administration. In addition, the Tourism Information Centre also received financial support from domestic donors and friendly countries which was spent on decoration and advertisement printing equipment. The Fida Company funded the decoration of the second floor of the centre, and the ecotourism project of the Netherland development organisation (SNV) assisted in decoration and advertisement printing equipment. The Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) supported finance the tourism promotion along the West-East Economic Corridor, printing, training officials and uploading information into website and the ADB-funded Sustainable Tourism Development Project with printing equipment. In addition, the Culture, Sport and Tourism Service of Guangxi province, China, donated two sets of personal computer to the tourism information centre. Ms Bounmy said that the establishment of the tourism information centre in Savannakhet province would provide good services for domestic and foreign tourists, particularly the supply of information on tour proprammes, tourist sites, background with pictures. The information available is in Lao, English, Vietnamese, and Thai languages. The centre has guide books introducing tourist sites in each province and a website based in Savannakhet province which is linked to the National Tourism Administration. Savannakhet has now arranged tourism information services at three places in service of tourists: one at the Savannakhet tourism service, ecotourism unit and on the second Friendship bridge. In the future, we will update tourism information and improve guides’ capacity and try to step forward selling tour programmes. And we will build offices at the bus stations in Phalanesay and Phine districts, Denesavanh border checkpoint and some tourist site in the provincial capital - Kaysone Phomvihane district.
