Foreign labour markets claim workers not illegal

(KPL) Although foreign labour market is capped, Lao workers are a high demand in neighbouring countries, especially Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia, according to a Lao Job Recruitment Company.
Some factories in neighbouring countries have demanded for thousands of Lao workers, but we could not meet customers’ demand. This was due to the fact that hundreds of thousands of Lao workers enjoyed working illegally in neighbouring countries and they ignored applying for jobs through recruitment companies, said Director of Sinxay Job Recruitment Company, Mr Phouthone Vorasane.
This is because the company could not respond to factory demand abroad because they tried to avoid many steps of documentation of the recruitment companies which was time-consuming, paid expensive registration fees and have to implement a two-year contract of employment.
However, it is a difficult step and the implementation of regulation of the company is to ensure property and lives security.
If Lao workers follow the regulation of the company, they will be entitled to open bank accounts, which would facilitate the money transfer back to their homeland. And most importantly when they are ill, they would be awarded a free treatment, Mr Phoutone explained.
Lao migrant workers prefer working illegally because they can return home after receiving wages and they don’t want to follow the commitment.
This is a reason that Lao workers working illegally in neighbouring countries to avoid paying any fees and other difficult steps of documentation but they will face risks in those countries, he said.
More than 500 Lao workers were sent to work legally in foreign countries per year, said Mr Phoutone.
In order to attract thousands of Lao illegal workers back home, Mr Phouthone called on the Lao government to open more labour markets with higher wages such as Japan, South-Korea, Australia and the Middle East.
